How did you end up guiding in the Keys?
Placeholder answer for the team to replace. I came down for a season thirty years ago and never left. The flats get in your blood — every tide is a different puzzle.
What does First to the Fish mean to you?
Being on the water before anyone else, prepared better than anyone else. The fish don't wait, and neither do we.
What's always on the skiff?
A push pole, more water than I think I need, and a hooded sun shirt. Ask my clients — sun protection is the difference between fishing at 3 PM and quitting at noon.
One piece of advice for someone chasing their first tarpon?
Slow down. The biggest mistake I see is rushing the shot. That fish has been swimming that line for a hundred miles — let it come to you.
